LASHER, William "Bill" E., 78, of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday October 5, 2022 at Hospice of Cincinnati. Born July 25, 1944 in Hammond, IN to Joseph Wittenauer and Audrey Ford, Bill was a Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the University of Cincinnati for 39 years. Bill attended the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate degree and received his PhD from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Always a professor, he entertained friends, family, and care givers with his amazing knowledge of the English language and linguistics. He could pinpoint any dialect with amazing accuracy. For many years, he wrote a weekly article for the Cincinnati Enquirer about linguistics and the English language. Bill served as an expert on linguistics in legal matters. He also was an active member of his church, serving as warden and junior warden.
Preceded in death by his parents and his adopted father, Myron Lasher, Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary (nee: Lavigne) Lasher, his daughter, Katherine (Andrew Miller) Lasher, his two sons, Stephen (Leanne) Lasher and Joseph (Jenifer) Lasher, two brothers, Myron (Olga) Lasher II and Stephen (Bonnie) Lasher, his sister, Doloris (Gene) Smith, and his eight grandchildren, Grace and Rose Miller, Calvin, Everett, Theo, Ellis, Elizabeth and Stanley Lasher.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Bill's life on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 1 PM at the St Patrick's Episcopal Church in Lebanon. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the St Patrick's Episcopal Church or to Hospice of Cincinnati. Arrangements by the Oswald Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon.
