Wilbur Linley
Woollard, Jr
Oct 6, 1931 — Oct 9, 2024
Wilbur Linley Woollard, Jr., 93 of Lebanon, Ohio, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Born to Wilbur L. and Effie Woollard (nee: Monger), on October 6, 1931. Wilbur was a 1949 graduate of Lebanon High School, where he was a standout athlete on both the baseball and basketball teams. Wilbur met his wife of 67 years Wanda Evaleen (nee: Eskridge), in high school and was proud to brag that he was "lucky enough to have married the prom queen." Shortly after being married, Wilbur was called to serve his country during the Korean War and proudly joined the United States Marine Corps where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal.
Wilbur built a career in the Personnel and Executive Recruiting industry providing professional staffing support to large corporations on a national level. During his career, Wilbur held multiple management and leadership positions, and he went on to establish his own staffing firm in the engineering / design industry.
Wilbur's passion for baseball was a large part of his life and he was most proud of the fact that prior to receiving his draft notice, he was able to tryout with and receive interest from the Cincinnati Reds as a potential pitcher. As sports were an important part of his life, Wilbur enjoyed attending Reds games and tailgating with family at Bengal's games.
Wilbur and his wife Wanda shared an amazing life together. The two of them liked taking trips and traveled to many places including Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. They raised Appaloosa Horses and enjoyed nature and the outdoors. In 1955, they helped start the GNO Club and over the next 45 years, they were able to create wonderful memories with many of their life-long friends.
Preceded in death by Wanda, Wilbur is survived by his special friends, Brian and Carrie Cobb and many nieces, nephews, great nieces' and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Wilbur was a devoted husband, a proud United States Marine, and a truly kind man who will be greatly missed.
