Obituary

On Saturday January 27th, 2024, Tymothy L. Halsey began the next chapter of his eternal adventure.

From his family roots in Eastern Kentucky, Tym inherited a spirit of generosity, humor, and appreciation of the good and simple things that truly matter in life. He was the oldest child of Danny Joe and Nola Ann Halsey, and was an admired big brother of Joann, Terry, and Vanessa. Tym had two children of his own (Ashley and Austin) and was blessed with two more (Josh and Jessica) when he married his soulmate and love of his life, Melanie. His family has flourished, giving Tym countless opportunities to dote on his many grandkids – taking them fishing and hunting, coaching and cheering them on in their athletics, visiting playgrounds and swimming holes and rodeos and all of the special experiences best enjoyed in the company of "Grandpa".

Not content to live only one life at a time, Tym packed several lives into this one. You may know him from his time at Lebanon schools, where he played on the 1980 Warriors football team that went to the state championship, and where he claimed to hold the record of the oldest student ever to be paddled. Or, you may know him from his long career at the post office, where despite rain or snow he reliably delivered mail to the many citizens of Mason, and is rumored to have left suggestions for football plays in the mailboxes of the Bengals coaching staff. You may know him through his career as a talented musician and band member - he was intuitively musical, and loved to play everything from celtic to country music. As a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #26, and a former National Officer of the Freemasons Riding Club, and a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Tym formed lifelong friendships, and made memories from coast to coast – many of which should probably not be repeated here.

Tym took no half measures. He didn't just ride motorcycles – he once raced one from Key West to Homer, Alaska. He didn't just get a dog – he built a kennel of competitive squirrel hunters. And he didn't just love his dear ones – he loved them in ways much too deep to be described here in words.

Ultimately, Tym Halsey was a hometown boy who also managed to live a life of magic–epic in scope and adventure. And although true stories from his life need no embellishment, he could often be found telling his tales with a twinkle in his eye that suggested that he might not let facts get in the way of a good story. It is his family's sincere wish that those who knew him will continue to remember and share your stories of him, so that he may continue to share laughter, history, and wisdom with those he loved.

"Tym", "Bodhi", "Shipwreck", "Brother", "Dad", "Grandpa Tym" – we will hold you in our hearts until we meet again.
