Sandra Draughon, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026.
Sandra spent her youth in Central El Paso and graduated from Austin High School. It was at Grandview Baptist Church where her heart was transformed by grace, embracing Christ as her Lord and Savior and publicly declaring her faith through baptism on February 21, 1960.
On December 22, 1962, Sandra was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Jerry Draughon, beginning a journey of shared devotion and love.
Sandra was a steadfast pillar as the church secretary at Scotsdale Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas for over 20 years. It was there that her life blossomed in faith, family, and fellowship. Alongside dear brothers and sisters in Christ, she faithfully served the ministry while raising her children, Danny and Wendy, within the warmth of the church family.
Guided by a spirit of hospitality, Sandra cultivated a sanctuary of peace wherever the Lord led her—from the vibrant desert landscapes of El Paso to the serene mountain heights of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and ultimately to Monroe, Ohio, where she delighted in being surrounded by her cherished family. It was in Ruidoso that she worked at Walmart continuing to show her love of service to the customers in both the Electronic center and the garden center.
Sandra was affectionately known by her loved ones as "Mother Nature," a testament to her deep appreciation for God’s creation. She saw the Creator’s hand in all living things, filling her home with life—from birds, fish, and dogs to her famous wrap-around porch in Ruidoso, which became a haven for dozens of hummingbirds, deer, raccoons and bears. Blessed with a God-given gift for nurturing growth, her green thumb could tenderly restore life to any plant placed in her care.
Sandra has been reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 49 years, Jerry Dean Draughon (d. 2011), and her cherished son, Daniel Dean Draughon (d. 2013).
Her memory and faith live on through those she leaves behind:
Daughter & Son-in-Law: Wendy and Steve Holt
Grandchildren: Tanner (Katie) Holt, Hunter Holt, Makenna (Chance) Palmer, Daphne (Buddy) Lovato, and Dylan Draughon
Great-Grandchildren: Weston, Ryder, Adalynn, River, Blaze, and Marigold
Her legacy endures in the beauty she brought into the world, the faith she passed down, and the deep love she gave to her family. Her contagious laugh and smile will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 9:00 AM at Scotsdale Baptist Church, 10015 Lockerbie Ave, El Paso, TX, 79925, Reverend Steve Holt officiating. Inurnment will follow in Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lydia's Mission.
