Patricia Elizabeth
Bendel
Jan 13, 1929 — Apr 2, 2024
Patricia Elizabeth (nee Rosselot) Bendel, 95, died Tuesday, April 2, at Four Seasons of Washington in Washington Courthouse, OH. Born January 13, 1929, in Los Angeles, CA, to Leo Charles and Mary Bertha (nee: Coles) Rosselot, she was the fifth of 8 children. She was a 1951 graduate of Mt. St. Joseph-on-the-Ohio College and the University of Cincinnati where she played trombone in the marching band and earned a degree in Art Education. She became an art teacher at Winton Place Elementary in Cincinnati, OH. She later became certified in Elementary Education and taught several years at St. John's School in Middletown, OH. After her marriage to Bill Bendel in 1957, she spent the next year as the Art Curriculum Supervisor for Middletown Public Schools.
When the children came along, she happily gardened, canned, sewed and served as a longtime 4-H advisor and band parent. She loved music, singing and performing with her sisters, ad libbing for grandkids at the piano, and continued to sing and remember lyrics long into her battle with Alzheimer's.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Traditional Roman Catholic Church in Norwood and St. Gertrude's in Sharonville for many years and devoted her life to her family and her Catholic faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Wm. James Bendel, Jr.; two brothers, Charles (killed in WW2) and Edward Rosselot; four sisters - Mary Margaret Moore, Gertrude Sherman, Edith Opozda, and Phoebe Borman; and one grandson, Peter Schappacher.
Survivors include one son, William J. Bendel, III (Gretchen) of Lebanon, Ohio; three daughters - Patrice (Mike) Hone of Prospect, PA; Mariangela (Leo) Schappacher of Greenfield, Ohio; Bridgette (Paul) Lajoye of Verona, KY; and one sister, Gabrielle Strand of Liberty Twp., OH. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and soon-to-be 28 great-grandchildren. May she rest in peace.
