Obituary

BEGLEY, Michael Edward, 79, of Amelia, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Anderson. Mike was born September 27, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Floyd and Stella (nee: Howe) Begley. As a child, he lived in many small towns around southwestern Ohio. When he was a young teenager, Mike settled in the town of Lebanon where he met, fell in love with and, after a 4 year courtship, married the love of his life, Pearl Darghty. They remained happily married for 60 years until his death.
Mike was a proud US Navy Veteran having served 4 years active duty and 2 years in the Naval Reserves.  During the time he was aboard the icebreaker USS Glacier, he took part in Operation Deep Freeze '63, which spent four weeks battering the Antarctic ice packs which were more than 20 miles long and over 7 feet thick to pave the way for supply ships. The Glacier escorted the first convoy through the over 1,000 miles of ice pack to the main Navy base at McMurdo Sound.
Mike was a hard worker that went on to work for many different companies ultimately retiring from Ford Motor Co. after 33 years of employment.
Mike was a Christian and loved the Lord with all his heart. He served in many positions in area churches over the years.
Mike was well known for his "fish fries" that friends and family have enjoyed for many years. He loved silly jokes and doing all kinds of outdoor activities, but he found the most happiness in spending time with his family. He loved to sit around the dining table playing Farkle, Phase 10, Checkers or even Candy Land with the younger ones.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers George Begley and Floyd Begley, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Pearl, three sons, John Begley of Wilmington, Robert Begley of Morrow and Ronald Begley of Lebanon, one daughter, Kathleen (Andre) Gilyard of Milford, sister, Betty Anderson, four grandchildren, Michael Wolford, Mark Wolford, Sarah Begley and Michelle Opp and three great-grandchildren, Mariah Begley, Peyton Iles and Avery Iles.
