Mary C. Spellmire (nee Berssenbruegge), age 101, died peacefully at home on July 2, 2022, surrounded by family. Born August 30, 1920, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of Edward and Clara Berssenbruegge. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore J. Spellmire, brother, Fr. Robert Berson and her sister, Ruth Berssenbruegge, daughter Betty Spellmire and son Tom Spellmire. Mary Spellmire was a positive person full of talents and interests. She was always willing to give her time to someone, helping many people throughout her long life. Learning was especially important to her. Mary instilled a love of reading into her children and grandchildren. She cheerfully travelled the world to visit family and friends and to see historical places. Time with Mary at the farm always included food and, of course, a game of cards. Mary welcomed hundreds of people into her life. She had a generous spirit fueled by a steadfast faith in God and a belief in the goodness of humanity.
Mary is survived by her children Ted (Shirley) Spellmire, Claire Spellmire, John (Patty McCoy)Spellmire, Bill (Karen) Spellmire, Mary (Greg) Spellmire-Shooner, Chris (Vickie) Spellmire, Theresa Bain, and Patty (Kim) LaMothe; grandchildren, Adam Spellmire, Jason Spellmire, Emily Spellmire, Nathan Spellmire, Katie Spellmire, Charlotte Giardini, Crosby Bain, Christine Foley, Colleen Hilton, Maureen Feld, Jim Foley, Brandy Brophy and Jessie Hansen. Mary is also survived by her great-grandchildren Olivia Giardini, Grace Bain, Michael Foley, John Foley, Dillon Hansen, Kenny Hansen, Sophia Wheaton, Anthony Wheaton, Noah Brophy, Josh Brophy, Sean Ryan and Matt Ryan; nieces and nephew, Carla Buffenbarger, Carolyn Talley, Ali Rubinstein and Jim Foy; and great niece and nephew, Mary Elizabeth Dumouchelle and Tad Buffenbarger; and a great-great niece, Lizzy Dumouchelle. Of special mention are all the Sharonville nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2022, 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Oswald Funeral home in Lebanon, Ohio. The funeral Mass will be 10:00am Saturday, July 9, 2022 at St. Francis de Sales Church, 20 Desales Ave., Lebanon, OH 45036. Memorials may be made to Glenmary Home Missioners, P.O.
