Kenneth Ernest Butterworth, of Lebanon, Ohio, was born on June 6, 1942, in the Blair Hospital in downtown Lebanon, to Burnett and Deborah Butterworth and passed away on October 12, 2026.
Ken shared more than five decades of marriage with his wife, Sandra, whom he married in 1973. He is survived by his wife; his son, Jason Butterworth and wife, Lauren, and their son, Nicholas; and his daughter, Amy Paguirigan, her husband, Jai, and their daughters, Adia and Amelie.
Ken devoted his career to education, teaching for almost 40 years, starting at Waynesville High School, and retiring from Middletown High School. He taught Physiology, Biology, started a class in Ecology and occasionally, when needed, Chemistry. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wilmington College, Miami University and Xavier University.
Beyond the classroom, he was active with the Presbyterian Church and the Elks, and pursued a lifelong fondness of farming and his collection of antique gas engines and tractors. He picked up a skill in his 50s that he had learned in his youth of shearing sheep and became widely known and sought after county-wide for his ability.
Ken leaves behind a family who loved him and a wide circle of friends who knew him through his work, community, and many interests. He will be remembered for the life he built, the relationships he made, and the years he shared with those around him.
A gathering of friends and family are welcome to a visitation at 10 am Monday October 19, 2026 at the Chapel at Miami Cemetery, Corwin with a service following at 11 am.
