Karla Ann (nee: Ortolf) Vandegrift, 70, of Maineville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Central Park Assisted Living in Mason, OH. Born on August 23, 1952 to Carl and Martha (nee: McClaren) Ortolf in Detroit, MI.
Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, Randy Vandegrift, two sons, Kyle (Rachel) Vandegrift of Murfreesboro, TN, Ryan (Diana) Vandegrift of Waynesville, OH, one daughter, Kimberly Vandegrift of Philadelphia, PA, one brother, Kurt Ortolf, one sister Katrina Voye and four grandchildren, Kaiden, Sydney, Lyla and Andrew.
Karla was retired, having last served as a guidance counselor at Kings Jr. High School, taking a medical retirement in early 2010 due to the progression of Alzheimers. It was her dream job and she loved working with "her" kids and helping them explore their possibilities and goals in life, providing encouragement and support as she could. She was active with the Kings Marching Band having served in various offices including as its president for 2 terms over 12 years and was an avid supporter, traveling across the country as they performed, forming lifetime bonds that are remembered still today. She is a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church on Socialville-Fosters Rd and at one time served as secretary of the congregation all the while doing what she could to assist the congregation as it grew in their service to the Lord. She was quiet, compassionate and thoughtful in her treatment of others and filled her family who adore her with her love.
Visitation, Friday, February 10, 2023 from 10 AM until 11 AM, all at the King of Kings Lutheran Church, 3621 Socialville Foster Road, Mason, OH 45040. Pastor Doug Swanson officiating. Interment follows in Miami Cemetery in Corwin, OH. Arrangements by the Oswald Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Alzheimers Association.
