Obituary

John Henry Duncan III, 77, of Huntsville, AL and formerly of Lebanon, OH, passed away on Friday November 5, 2021. Born October 28, 1944 in Monticello, KY to John H. and Mary M. (nee: Weaver) Duncan II; he was a 1963 graduate of Lebanon High School. John accepted the Lord at a very early age and was united with First Missionary Baptist Church of Loveland, OH. A member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriner's; John felt the call to serve his country in the US Army. He proudly served from 1964 until his retirement in 1992 as an E9 Sgt. Major. John served two tours in Vietnam, one in Korea, three in Germany and was active during Desert Storm. His awards include the Bronze Star, Air Medal (second award), Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and six awards of the Good Conduct Medal. He also was awarded the Master Aircraft Crewman's badge.  After his retirement from the military, he was employed with PEO Aviation US Government Redstone Arsenal for 21 years until his second retirement in 2013. Johnny loved watching western movies. His friendly smile and outgoing personality will be missed.

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary, his brother, Paul T. Duncan and a sister, Peggy J. Harrell. He is survived by his wife, Hanna Duncan of Germany, his son, John H. Duncan IV of Huntsville, AL, his seven sisters, Katherine M. (Gene) Snow of Punta Gorda, FL, Mary D. (Michael) McNeill of Lebanon, OH, Linda S. (Lawrence) Hamilton of Piqua, OH, Paulette S. Hamilton of Lebanon, OH, Norma J. Duncan of Lebanon, OH, Ramona J. (Kevin) Strickland of Lebanon, OH, Terrye (Ronald) Blevins of Detroit, MI and very special friend, Shelby Beasley of Huntsville, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon with funeral service immediately following at the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon, OH.

Reverend Clifford Ballard officiating. Interment follows in Lebanon Cemetery. Request memorial donations may be donated to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. The family has requested that due to the Covid 19 pandemic all in attendance please wear a mask when inside.
