Joel
Warshaw
May 5, 1939 — Feb 15, 2023
WARSHAW, Joel Marvin, 83, of Blanchester, OH passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at his residence. Born May 5, 1939 in Passaic, NJ to Harold and Cele (nee: Terkowitz) Warshaw was a proud and decorated US Marine Corp veteran serving in Vietnam. For his action taken against enemy fighters on October 31, 1967 where Joel flew a bombing mission while under attack, he was awarded the Silver Star Medal. After the Marines, Joel went to work for the Northwest Airlines, but a short time later they fired most of the pilots in a labor dispute. He barely knew what happened. He went to work for Proctor and Gamble and retired from there in 1999 after 26 years of service. In his spare time, Joel started working with the Warren County, OH, Sheriff's Department as a volunteer. They were so impressed with his work that they asked him to go through training to become a Deputy Sheriff. In 2007, Joel joined the Hamilton Township Police Department on a part time basis and became one of their oldest patrolman at the age of 67. For Warshaw, service jobs like the military or police department have been like family, and retirement was never for him. Joel is survived by his cousins, including Shelli Rossman, Rick Balter, Traci Tyo, Mikaela Clark and Hart Rossman, all of his friends at the Hamilton Township Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff's Office, and his adopted family at Buck's Tavern in Landen. Joel could be found there every weekday from 11 to 1 PM sharing lunch and swapping stories with his friends at the bar. A visitation will be held at the Vale Hoskins Funeral Home in Morrow on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 10 AM until 11 AM. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at the Hamilton Township Administration Building immediately following at 11:30 AM. Friends are encouraged to bring some stories to share with each other as they come together for food and fellowship in honor of Joel. Donations are requested to any military charitable organization of your choice. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date to be determined.
