Obituary

Tonkin, Jane Marie (nee: Price), 84, of Lebanon, entered eternal life on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Jane was born on October 3, 1938 to Kelly and Alice (nee: Packer) Price in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1956 and met her life-long partner John there, a love that would last 67 years. They married on December 21, 1957 and started their family in 1959. They relocated several times during the early years of their marriage, living in Shelby twice and back to New Philadelphia before moving to Centerville in 1979 and then to Lebanon in 1997. Many happy times were also spent at the cottage in Lakeside on Lake Erie.

Jane enjoyed many creative hobbies such as sewing, crocheting, rubber stamping, painting, and needlework. She loved traveling in the U.S. and abroad, fondly recalling her trips to England, Scotland, Germany, and the Holy Land. In recent years, she enjoyed playing Words with Friends and Candy Crush on her iPad and used it to keep in touch with friends and family via Facebook and FaceTime. She loved watching videos of worship songs, various preachers, and travel shows on YouTube. A favorite weekly activity was going to the Saturday morning hymn sing, but she avoided playing Bingo whenever possible. Jane loved God and was a dedicated volunteer with the United Methodist Church, serving as youth counselor, tour choir chaperone, office helper, and delegate to annual conference.  She was also involved in the Walk to Emmaus community and Epiphany, a group that ministers to incarcerated youth. She loved to reminisce with family and friends and many will remember her sweet disposition and her infectious and hearty laughter. Jane loved people deeply and unconditionally, and trusted her faith in all situations.

She is survived by her husband, John B. Tonkin; her four children, John D. (Lisa) Tonkin of Centerville, Jodi (Dave) Mott of West Chester, Jennifer (Jeff) Ensman of Lebanon, Jill (Robert) Simpson of Fort Collins, Colorado; her brothers, Kelly (Sharon) Price and Larry Price; four nieces, Stephanie, Kimberly, Randee, and Jane; stepsister, Dorothy Furbay; grandchildren Erin (Greg) Johnson, Emily Mott, Jay (Molly) Mott, Kelly (Brad) Sneed, Joel Ensman, Maggie Hunter, Anna Hunter, and two great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Isaac. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, and two grandsons, Adam J. Tonkin and John G. Ensman.

Jane's favorite hymn was It Is Well with My Soul and she sang it quietly the night she passed into eternal life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
