Obituary

WEIKERT, James Clement, 96, of Lebanon passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025 at his home. Born December 1, 1929 in Dayton, OH. James was the son of Ralph and Hazel (nee: Garrett) Weikert and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. James has lived in Lebanon since 1964. He was a graduate of Tipp City High School, class of 1948 and was a member of the US Marine Corp from August 1948 until August 1952 and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the First Marine Brigade and was in the first Marine battle in Korea near Pusan. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart. After recovering, he was sent to the Chosin Reservoir and his 1st Marine Division was surrounded by the Red Chinese. He was evacuated from Korea suffering from frostbite.  He returned home to the states and served the Norfolk VA area for five years as a police officer before relocating to Lebanon.

He then worked for General Motors in Dayton for 30 years and retired in 1994. He liked to golf, fish, garden, can vegetables, work in the yard, read and play cards.

Preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Norman, Thomas, and Timothy Weikert, his sister, Sunny Cooper and his son in law, Bill Smith. James leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane (nee: Bradford) Weikert, loving children Barry Gregg Weikert of Southgate, KY, Sandra Smith of Lebanon, and Steven James  Weikert of Richmond, VA, brother, Jack (Lorene) Weikert of Brookville, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Inurnment will take place on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the VA Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W Third St, Dayton OH 45428. A Celebration of Life will be held on the same day, from 5-7pm at the VFW, 15 W Silver St, Lebanon, OH 45036.  Arrangements by the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon.
