Obituary

SIMPKINS, Hurlden E. "Gene", 87, of Lebanon, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 in Miamisburg, Ohio. Born on January 5, 1933 to Riley and Sarah (nee: Finch) Simpkins in Middletown, OH, Gene grew up on a farm in Germantown, Ohio and graduated from Germantown High School in 1951. He entered the employment of Armco Steel Corporation's Middletown works. Drafted into the Army, he served most of his active service in Germany. He returned to Armco in 1955 and entered Miami University. He continued to work at Armco, primarily on 3 to 11 and 11 to 7 shifts while commuting to Miami during the day. Upon graduation in 1957, he transferred to the Industrial Engineering Department where he continued to work until retiring after 41 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty C. in 1962, son Jeffery E. in 1999, and his wife Margaret J. in 2005 whom he met in 1979. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Darrell and James Edward (Eddie).

He is survived by stepdaughter Lauren S. (Ray) Smith, step-son Matthew B. (Jan) Swan, six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Beverly Simpkins and Debbie Simpkins.

Private services will be held for the family. Interment will take place in Woodside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lebanon Public Library. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hoskinsfh.com .
