Helen
Lahmann
Feb 29, 1928 — Oct 12, 2022
Helen Charlotte Elberg Lahmann passed into God's loving arms on October 12, 2022 in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on Leap Day, February 29, 1928, the third child of Helen and Edward Elberg in Lockland, Ohio. Her young life revolved around her loving, extended family in their tiny North College Hill home. Always, music was central in her life, though she did boast about roller skating down Dallas Avenue hill and being "mumblety peg" champion of the block. She fell in love with her brother's best friend, Bill Lahmann, and married him shortly after her 19th birthday. She dedicated her early life to her three children, Jan, Debbie and Suzie, rearing them with Bill on an isolated 100-acre farm in Clermont County. She made a wonderful life for the family there and in their Batavia home of 33 years. She established and directed a Mother Singers chorus, directed church choirs at Owensville and Batavia Methodist churches, led children's church choirs, taught music in her children's early school classes that had no music program. She served as PTA president and on Clermont County Council to improve education standards in her children's schools. When her high school kids' band had no uniforms, she formed a Band Booster organization and spear-headed a fund-raising campaign for new uniforms. For nearly forty years she served Batavia 1st United Methodist church as music director and led United Methodist Women in the mission service projects. Above all, she was a piano teacher in those Clermont County years, touching so many young folks with the joy of music. Moving to Otterbein Retirement Center in Lebanon, Ohio opened years of traveling the United States with Bill, building endearing friendships with neighbors, serving that community as a volunteer. Church, choirs at Otterbein, Delta Omicron Music Fraternity – Zeta Gamma chapter, friends and family were her focus. The last fragile years were spent in Venice, Florida. After husband Bill died, she shared house and home in nearby Englewood with daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Charlie Zuberer. There she found care and comfort with her loved cat, Valentine, movie-buddy Charlie, and invaluable caregiver, Debbie. They made her laugh.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Bill; her parents Edward and Helen Elberg; her siblings Georgia Ann (Elberg) Utter, Edward "Bud" Elberg, Nancy (Elberg) Hiller and grandson Robert Lahmann. She leaves to cherish her life and memory her children Jan (Martha) Lahmann, Deborah (Charles) Zuberer, Suzanne (Gerald) Burg; six grandchildren – Edward (Ingrid) Lahmann, Charleen (Matthew) Stubbington, Daniel (Jennifer) Zuberer, Adam (Andrea) Burg, Jonathan Burg, Deborah (Brock) Miniard; fourteen great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
