Gerald Dean
Saunders
Apr 6, 1938 — Feb 10, 2024
Gerald Saunders of Lebanon, OH a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully left this world on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the age of 85. He was the heartbeat of his family, leaving behind a rich legacy for generations to come.
Gerald is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Sandra Saunders, and their three children, Kimberly Faggionato (Joe Faggionato), Cherylee Norris(Jeffery Norris) and Debbie Logsdon(Randy Logsdon), along with a legacy of nine grandchildren- Jillian, Jeremy, Angelo, Justin, Whitney, Treg, Andrea, Kelsey, Alec and seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as his sister in law, Paula Saunders, 5 nephews and 1 niece.
Gerald graduated from Miami University where he played on a basketball scholarship. From college, he went on to teach industrial arts and coached the Springboro Panthers, leading them to be State Runner Ups in 1965. Recognized for his roles as a player, coach and a teacher, Gerald will also be fondly recalled as a devoted husband, proud father and affectionate grandfather. His faith was his cornerstone and he consistently shared his profound connection with Christ with those around him. Conversations with Gerald often evolved into reflections on the boundless love, grace, and forgiveness he experienced in his own journey of faith. He wished for others to embrace this understanding of God's love and grace in their lives as well.
Gerald's lasting legacy is fundamentally rooted in the profound love and unwavering dedication he bestowed upon his family. He took immense joy in witnessing his daughters' athletic pursuits during their formative years and regularly journeyed to support his grandchildren's sporting endeavors. Whether cheering from the bleachers or offering advice at home, Gerald's presence was a constant source of encouragement and guidance. His abiding passion for basketball never waned, enduring even in his later years as he faithfully tuned in to every televised game. As he gracefully aged, he prioritized attending each of his great-grandchildren's birthday celebrations, his goofiness and infectious smile providing warmth and love. He also made special efforts to attend ballet recitals, though unable to offer much feedback, his presence alone was a testament to his boundless support and admiration for his family.
As Gerald's earthly journey has now come to a close, we find peace knowing that he joined the "biggest game of his life" by now playing in heaven's courts. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his passion for the game and his unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered in our hearts.
A visitation to commemorate Gerald will take place from 10am to 12pm at Urbancrest Baptist Church this Thursday, followed by a celebration of life service and graveside burial at Lebanon Cemetery.
