Obituary

Ellis Leo Amburgy, 88, of Lebanon, OH, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025. He was born on January 18, 1937 in Lerose, KY to the late Jalah (nee: Spencer) and Floyd Day Amburgy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joan Lee (nee: Bowman).

Cherished father of Kathy (Randy) Butcher, Brent Ellis Amburgy, Keith (Vicki) Amburgy, daughter-in-law, Carol Amburgy. Proud Pappy to Chad Ellis Burns (Trisha), Derek Gilbert, Beau (Ashley) Butcher, Jalah Amburgy, Kalah (Michael) Walsh. Proud Grand-Pappy to Addison and Cooper Burns, Colton Leo and Hudson Butcher, Eloise Kay and Blaine Walsh.

He is preceded in death by his beloved son, James Guy Amburgy. Sisters, Lois Bowman, Ilene Amburgy, Kay Penwell, Faye Amburgy. Brothers, Wayne, Kash, Marvin, Claude, Cotton and Blaine. In-laws, Hester and Earl Bowman.

Ellis as a young man worked on the family farm prior to moving to Ohio. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1956. He worked for brother Kash, NCR and Williamson Contracting where he traveled many states building restaurants. He was the owner of Ellis and Sons Builders. He was a self-taught carpenter, sharing his trade with many over the years.

Ellis was an avid car collector over his lifetime in which he owned 115 vehicles. He was the President of Run of the Mill Street Rodders. He was a member of The Lebanon Church of God for over 30 years. He attended the Urbancrest Baptist Church where he hosted their car show for 13 years.

Ellis enjoyed his many vacations over the years, his favorite being on a boat which he owned for over 30 years.

Above all else, family and friends held an unparalleled significate in his life. His wife, children great-children and friends were not just a part of his world: they were the very core around which his entire existence revolved.

Whether through shared laughter or the warmth of his infectious smile. Ellis had a remarkable ability to fill hearts with laughter. He never met a stranger and knew someone everywhere he went.

Visitation, Friday, February 7, 2025 from 4:00 PM- 8:00 PM with a service on Saturday, at 10:00 AM, all at the Urbancrest Baptist Church. Nephew Blaine Bowman will officiate. Interment will immediately follow in Deerfield Cemetery with Masonic Services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to the Urbancrest Mission Fund, 2634 Drake Road, Lebanon, OH 45036.
