Obituary

David Bernard Yelton.

David was born on his mother's birthday, September 3, 1953.  He passed peacefully on December 18, 2023, age 70.

David lived his life joyfully serving the Lord and finding ways to help others in everything he did.  After being diagnosed with a rare genetic neuromuscular disease, Kennedy's Disease (KD), he found ways to support others also living with the condition. He learned all that he could about KD which results in a slow decline in mobility and swallowing. Choosing to find gratitude in what he could still enjoy, he found accessible ways to travel with his wife. He shared this information with others at the Kennedy's Disease Association annual conference. He joined the KDA board, most recently using his accounting talents to help as treasurer.

David worked hard as an accountant to provide a beautiful life for his family. He graduated from Thomas More College with a BA in accounting, earned a MS in tax accounting from Seton Hall University and subsequent certifications as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, and a Certified Management Accountant.  He worked for NCR Corporation and later Duke Energy.

A professional volunteer, especially in retirement, David used his accounting knowledge and wisdom to serve others.  He was a founding board member of Interfaith Hospitality Network of Warren County, now known as Family Promise of Warren County, whose mission is that every family has a home, a livelihood, and a future full of promise.

David served with the local St. Vincent DePaul Society and assisted with financial matters for the Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society.

He enjoyed making a joyful noise as church cantor or choir member and for a few years as a member of a barbershop chorus. Throughout all his hard work and service to others, nothing was more prioritized or cared for than his family. David spent time traveling around the country with his wife and daughter, never missed a track or cross country meet, and always had a comforting hug to share. There was no question that of all the positions he held, his most cherished was Margy's husband and Anita's daddy.

Preceded in death by his parents, Clair M. and Anita M. (nee Dwertman) Yelton and infant brother, Michael, David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaret (nee Kilian), daughter and son-in-law Anita and Michael Martin, grandchildren Nathan and Sophie, sister and brother-in- law Mary Jo and Leo Knueven, brother and sister-in-law Don Yelton and Ann Saluke and nephews, Michael, Joseph (Heather) and Bernard (Jillian) Knueven.

If you choose to remember David in a special way, memorials to the Kennedy's Disease Association, www.kennedysdisease.org or Family Promise of Warren County, www.FamilyPromiseWarren.org will be carrying on his giving gift.
