Obituary

OLSON, David Peck, 68, of Lebanon, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 12, 2024 at his home in Lebanon. Born September 1, 1955 in Enid, OK to Robert and Charlotte Anne (nee: Peck) Olson, David was a graduate of Lebanon High School in 1974. He went on to Hanover College where he earned his Bachelor's of Arts degree in Geology and then obtained his Master's Degree from Miami University in 1979.

David had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, with none being greater than his love of nature and the environment. At an early age, David was combing the creek beds, construction sites, and other places looking for fossils, especially trilobites! He became an expert on local geology and was always eager to discuss how Lebanon, Ohio was once underwater, which is why the fossils are here. He could also explain just where the glacier stopped during the last ice age and why Warren County has so many gravel deposits. David brought snakes and other "critters" home (which gave Mom lots of angst) and this love of nature marked his life. In high school and college, David was very interested in photography and took beautiful pictures of mountains, lakes, flowers, and all things in nature.  Several of his pictures he had framed and hung in his house.  His desire to protect nature and the environment was a very important part of who he was throughout life. Some of David's favorite places on this earth were our National Parks - Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Glacier National Park were among his all-time favorites to visit, hike, and photograph.

David taught himself how to play golf and become an avid golf fan and loved playing with friends.  He also turned his love of golf into a business - buying and selling golf clubs on the used club market all over the midwest. He would set up "shop" and people would come to see "the golf guy" and buy clubs.  His goal was to help others become better players and come to love the game as much as he did.  He recorded a personal best of 79 on the course and was always proud to have broken 80 once!

Preceded in death by his parents and sister in law, Cynthia Olson, he is survived by his brother, Tom Olson, nephews, Michael (Katrina) Olson and Steven (Abby) Olson and four great nieces and nephews, Henry, Amelia, Andrew and Katie.
