Obituary

Carolyn Herald Butler, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Maineville, Ohio, surrounded by her beloved family—her only child, Jill Beasley, son-in-law Greg, and cherished grandchildren Jillian and Gregory.

Carolyn was born on March 20, 1945, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, and was raised by her wonderful parents, Brack and Oma Herald. She was one of eleven children in a family rooted in godly principles and a deep commitment to putting family first. Carolyn graduated from Lebanon High School in 1962 and married the love of her life, Lonnie Butler, on March 17, 1967.

She spent 11 years working at NCR (National Cash Register) before retiring to fully embrace her most treasured roles: a devoted wife to Lonnie and an exceptional mother to Jill. Tragically widowed at the age of 48, Carolyn carried on with courage and faith, dedicating herself to supporting the life and ministry of her daughter and son-in-law.

Carolyn was unmatched in her love for her family. She adored being "Nana" and embraced every moment with her grandchildren. Her warmth, generosity, and sense of fun were evident in the little things she loved—coffee, light humor, and eventually even Disney, which she grew to love just as much as her grandkids did.

Fondly known as "Nana Starbucks," Carolyn had a gift for making people feel seen and celebrated, often with coffee gift cards and words of encouragement.

She was a faithful and active member of Dodds Pentecostal Church of God, where she joyfully served in many roles over the years. She taught Missionettes, contributed to countless hospitality events, and became lovingly known as the "funnel cake master mixer" at the church's booth at the annual Sauerkraut Festival.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lonnie in 1993. Carolyn is survived by her daughter and family, as well as three loving sisters: Jean Eaton of Lebanon, Ohio; Beverly Ramey of Waynesville, Ohio; and Hazel Ann Coates of Richmond, Kentucky.

Carolyn's legacy is one of faith, family, service, and steadfast love. Her life was a testament to grace and resilience, and she leaves behind a family who adored her and a community forever touched by her presence.
