Carol Anne Carraway, beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on September 17, 1945, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Carol was the cherished daughter of Dr. William J. Morse and Priscilla Alger Morse.

In her youth, Carol was an avid archer and musician, competing with bow and arrow and studying piano and accordion. From a young age, she also had a special knack for cultivating life-long relationships that transcended generational boundaries and included not only classmates but likewise far younger children and their parents, from whom Carol drew trust and admiration.

In her teen years, regular babysitting jobs sparked a passion for teaching and learning. In 1967, she graduated from Elmira College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Pushing contemporary boundaries, she moved across the country in her white Corvair, and began inspiring young minds as a third- and fourth-grade teacher in the Denver Public Schools. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Richard Charles Carraway, igniting a partnership marked by love, dedication, and shared purpose.

After the birth of their first daughter, Deborah Lynn, Rich and Carol moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where they welcomed two more children, Douglas Clarke and Susan Beth. Carol took a break from professional life to focus on her family. In 1980, they made another move, settling in the suburbs of Cincinnati. Here, Carol decided it was time to return to her career.

Carol’s devotion to education and community service led her to ME Lyons YMCA where she became a preschool teacher, then Day Camp Director, Childcare Director, and finally Associate Executive Director. Her work at the Y touched countless families and children.

In retirement, Carol and Rich made their home in Lebanon, Ohio, where they gave generously of their time as tutors and mentors in the local school district and helped to bring the Miller Ecological Park to life—an enduring testament to Carol’s love of nature and community stewardship. She was also a faithful volunteer with Vacation Bible School and the preschool program at Lebanon Presbyterian Church, where her warmth and gentle spirit made every child feel valued.

Carol’s life was a testament to service, love, and the quiet, lasting impact of a devoted educator and compassionate soul. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, and in the beauty of the world she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Priscilla Morse. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings, Priscilla Jane Huston (Sam), William Morse (Ellen), and Richard Morse (Viola); her children, Debbie Carraway (David), Doug Carraway (Mara), and Susan Medina (Pablo); and her treasured grandchildren, Sierra Macander, Braeden Macander, Thegn Penrose, Maryn Medina, and Kara Medina.
