Obituary

William (Bill) Edward Staffan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Middletown. He was born on July 23rd, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward and Agnes (nee: Snyder) Staffan. In 1957 he married his sweetheart, Wyiona Faye Dabe of Clarksville and cherished her for 68 years.

With a degree from University of Dayton in Electrical Engineering, Bill spent 50 years working in the electronics industry: 10 years at AT&T before founding Industrial Electronic Service in 1967. His insatiable curiosity was ignited by service in the U.S. Signal Corps, which translated to guiding generations of children – from leading Boy Scouts to mentoring robotics students in Lebanon's City Schools. Bill capped his career at age 69, spending a season as Raytheon Polar Services' Fire Systems Inspector at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

Bill generously volunteered at St. Francis de Sales, including Cursillo, Christ Renews His Parish, Vacation Bible School, St. Vincent de Paul, and installed and maintained sound and security systems for the school and church for decades.

Bill's family is fondly bonded forever to Glenmary Home Missions, volunteering construction skills to renovate homes and churches with Glenmarians in rural Appalachia. Bill and Wyiona were prison chaplains for 27 years at LCI, WCI, Montgomery County Jail, and the Ohio Reformatory for Women; baked thousands of homemade cookies for inmates; and founded a grass-roots coalition of Lebanon churches to assist at Warren County's Juvenile Detention Center. Bill led a life full of compassion, adventure, and wonder.

Bill's loving children include: Mike (Deana) Staffan, Sue (Steve) Penrod, Jim (Julie) Staffan, Pete (Sonya) Staffan, and Paul Staffan. Bill was happiest entertaining his 16 grandchildren: Daniel, Rebecca, Nick, Aaron, Alecia, Sarah, Megan, Jessica, Will, Jack, Andrew, Spencer, Skyler, Stephen, Sam, and Scott. Bill is survived by great-grandchildren: Jacob, Charlotte, Levi, Willow, Nick Jr., Landen, Ian, Annie, Neo, Emma, Alex, McKenzie, Brock, Lexis, McKenna, Skylar Kay, Henry, Kinsley, and Jackson and his sister, Peggy Farwick. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Agnes Staffan; infant daughter, Mary Ann; sister, Betty Staffan Rein; and daughter-in-law, Theresa (Wabler) Staffan.

Visitation is Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, 329 East Mulberry Street, Lebanon, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Francis de Sales, Lebanon, at 10am on Monday, March 2, 2026. Graveside service follows at Lebanon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers gifts made in Bill's memory to Glenmary Home Missions, PO Box 465618, Cincinnati, OH 45246, or to St. Francis de Sales, Lebanon. Bill Staffan leaves a profound legacy of compassion for the least of his brothers, and he will be dearly missed.
