Betty
Chaney
Oct 31, 1924 — Nov 7, 2020
CHANEY, Betty Louise (nee: Richardson), 96, of Maineville, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Otterbein in Maineville. Born on October 31, 1924 to George and Clara (nee: Miles) Richardson in Somerset, KY, Betty was a member of Church Venture in Maineville and First Baptist Church in Middletown.
When Betty was in the 5th grade her family moved to Danville Kentucky where her parents began a grocery business in 1935. She had a very close relationship with her brother, Guy, whom she helped nurse back from a bout of childhood polio. Betty attended Centre College in Danville where she earned a degree in elementary education. It was at a Centre College dance that she met her future husband, Carl Chaney, who was in a pilot training program at Centre. The couple married after WWII and celebrated 65 years together. After leaving the Air Force Carl and Betty moved to Middletown where they became very active members of The First Baptist Church of Middletown. As a homemaker and mother she enjoyed volunteering at her children's schools and was a den mother for Cub Scouts. Betty was an integral part of raising her grandchildren and they were very devoted to her.
Betty and Carl loved to host family and friends at their beautiful home that overlooked a creek. Betty loved wildflowers and she and Carl would scour creeks and rivers to bring the native plants to their creek in Hunter where they created a beautiful oasis. The family loved to gather on their deck high in the trees and enjoy a cookout.
The family was able to celebrate this gracious, kind and accepting woman's 96th birthday just one week ago. During these COVID times, we were grateful to be with her.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl Chaney, one son, Joseph Reid Chaney and her brother, Guy Preston Richardson, She is survived by her son, Chris (Heather) Chaney of Lebanon, her daughter, Lynn Chaney of Lebanon and four grandchildren, Nicholas Chaney, James B. Chaney (Jessica), Lindsay (Mike) Lovell and Laura Chaney (Jesse Knotts); and four great grandchildren, Wyatt, Julia, Connor and Bella.
