Clara LaVine Sterrett

STERRETT, Clara LaVine (Hinkel), 84, formerly of Lebanon, Ohio died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Born March 27, 1929 in Norwood, Ohio to Fred John and Minnie Marie (Kissinger) Hinkel, she graduated from Norwood High School, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society and served as co-editor of the newspaper. After high school, she attended evening college at the University of Cincinnati and worked as a stenographer for Union Central Insurance Company; later in life, she worked in retail. She married Robert Spence Sterrett on August 6, 1949. Above all else, Clara was a gentle and loving mother to her four children; she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting, and was active in her church as a Sunday school teacher, lay pastor, and childcare volunteer. She enjoyed traveling to Canada, Alaska and historic sites in the US. Clara’s extended family was the most important thing to her. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Elizabeth Anne Sterrett, Clara is survived by daughters Nancy (Bill) Barba and Jennifer (Mike) O’Neill and son Robert (Karen) Sterrett; a sister, Helen Bradfish, and sister-in-law Ruth Geers; seven grandchildren (Matthew, Patrick, Sarah, Stephen, Emily, Owen and Mary), three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 am at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Clara’s name be made to: Judith Karman Hospice, PO Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076, the organization that provided loving care to Clara at the end of her life. Arrangements made by Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon. Online condolences available at www.Hoskinsfh.com.
